Semester 2 Final: Platter

Surprisingly, this project wasn't as daunting to me as the others in unit six. A platter seemed straightforward enough, and I already had a good vision for what I wanted to do. I planned to engrave simple, straight-line designs on the sides of the platter, reminiscent of the style of ancient Greek ceramics. The greenware construction phase went well. I was able to get the general shape of the vessel correct on my first try, so I decided to embellish my original plan a bit with the twisted handles. One decision that I somewhat regret making during this process was being too conservative about the engraved designs. I didn't want to risk ruining the whole piece, so I was very sparing in the detail and quantity of the engravings. After the vessel was fired, the glazing process was tedious but uneventful, as I tried my best to prevent the two colors from blending into each other.
For my food, I decided to bring in olives and pita bread, two Greek classics that I thought would work well, considering the small size of my platter. Overall, I'm content with this project. It came out similarly to how I imagined it, and that alone is good enough for me.
