Goals and Planning for 2025
Plans for Unit 5:
Bust/Poem Inspired: To be determined. We have not met
with our partners yet
Current Artist Inspired Piece: TBA
Alebrijes: I've heard of Alebrijes and know their general style. I plan to make a seal. I think the relatively simple shape of a seal would be well within my skill set to make.
Useful Piece: Despite it already being the second semester of this year, I have yet to construct and glaze a practical bowl. I plan to make a basic bowl with a foot, glazed with a crystal glaze.
Mask or Wall Hanging: I plan to make a mask inspired by a mask from a video game I enjoy.
Choice Project: For this choice project, I want to make a refined version of my pinch pot. With my improved skills, I feel like I can make a much better version of it.
Plans for Unit 6:
Whimsical House: I'm not entirely sure what the actual design of the house will be, but I plan to make it a container with a fitted lid.
Advanced Large Sculpture: I feel like I need more context as for the expectations of this project.
Vessel with Interesting Feet: An interesting idea I saw near the beginning of the year was a bowl with feet that were models of actual human/animal feet. For this project, I'd like to carry out that idea in my own way.
Tea Pot: I currently don't have any ideas for anything particularly unique. Maybe something will come to me upon learning the technique for making tea pots.
Organic Shape: if by "organic shape" you mean occurring in nature, I'd like to do something galaxy-like or another extra-terrestrial object.
Choice Project: Like my other choice project, I want to redo another one of my old pieces. This time, my face from the beginning of the year. I feel like the idea I had was pretty solid and realistic. Looking at the final product now, however, just makes me think about how many things I could improve if I were to make it again.
Overall Goals: This semester, I hope to make things that I sincerely like. Last semester, for the most part, I didn't truly care about my pieces in this class. I created them with the sole intention of meeting the requirements for a good grade. From now on, I'll strive to create things that I can be proud of in the future, even if they're not necessarily of the highest quality. Likewise, I also want to gift one of my pieces to someone. Not just any piece, however. I want to gift someone a piece that is practical and usable, such as a cup, mug, or bowl.
Another major goal of mine this semester is to somehow overcome my lack of fine motor skills. As you've likely seen, my fine motor skills are not the greatest, and I see this class as a way to improve them. Although I understand that all forms of ceramics require precise/gentle handing to some extent, this semester I hope to find and learn new construction methods that don't rely as much on raw fine motor skills.
